About Building Inspect

An independent Australian journal about building inspections, defects, and the houses people actually buy.

Building Inspect is a long-form editorial publication about Australian building and pest inspections. We write for buyers, owners, strata committees and the inspectors who still put their name on a report.

The old buildinginspect.com.au sat in a practical niche: pre-purchase inspections, timber pests, and the defects that decide whether a house is a home or a dispute. The Wayback Machine did not return a usable capture while this edition was rebuilt, so the subject was taken from the domain itself and from the work Australian inspectors still do every week under AS 4349.1 and AS 4349.3.

We are not a booking desk. We do not sell inspections, pest treatments, cladding tests or legal services. When we describe a standard, a clause or a tribunal, we are describing how the industry talks about those things, not acting for you. Conveyancers, licensed inspectors, engineers and lawyers remain the people who act on a particular house.

What we publish

How we work

Copy is edited in Australian English. Claims about standards and state agencies are checked against the public documents those bodies publish. We do not invent case studies with fake suburbs to inflate word counts; when we describe a 1960s brick veneer in western Sydney or a high-set Queenslander in inner Brisbane, we are describing types of houses inspectors actually see.
